-Is it racist for a white man to forbid African-American nurses from holding his newborn baby?
Yes, I think this is extremely racist. Actions like this are almost direct reflections of extremist hate such as that shown by Nazi's during the Holocaust. This shows how "disgusted" a person is by another race, so much so that they don't even feel comfortable with letting their child be touched by one. This means that the race is viewed not only as not being equal or not even just as being inferior, but as being almost inhuman completely. -Is it racist for a high school homecoming parade to feature a float with a tepee and an “Indian maid” with a feather in her hair to celebrate the school’s athletic teams that are known as the Braves?
This I believe is just over-sensitivity to racism in society. Yes racism is a problem, but it is almost just as pressing of a problem when people go over the top saying that anything that even has to do with race becomes racist. This is an instance of school pride, and depending upon the demographics of the student body, could even be pride of their heritage. There is no actual instance of racial discrimination or any suffering in this at all.
-Is it racist for the Border Patrol to target populations that are clearly Latino in its search for immigrants without proper documentation?
This could go either way. Sadly, if the actual data and statistics are investigated, it shows that most illegal immigrants in this country are in fact of some Latino origin. The job of the members of the Border Patrol is to catch any illegal immigrants that are in this nation. This puts a lot of pressure on getting results, and they play the odds. This is not a black and white instance in the least.
-Is it racist for a small-business loan officer to favor a loan to a Latino over a loan to an Asian person simply because the Latino is in greater need?
In my opinion this is just an out-right foolish question to ask. In no way, shape, or form is there any example of racism, racial-prejudice, discrimination, or any sort of racial oppression in the least. This is simply a business deal to the more in need person. I believe that anyone who actually accuses this as being an example of racism is an over-sensitive fool.
-Is it racist for a police officer to pull over a black family out for a Sunday drive simply because they happen to be in a “white” neighborhood?
This would definitely be an instance where racial profiling is surely happening. If the decision was based solely on the fact that they were black, there is a clear cut example of racism happening. This is not only racist it is discriminatory for saying that a black family does not belong in a "white" neighborhood. This is a blatant example of one person trying to make another race inferior. Prejudice + Power = Racism.
